Genesis 32:26b – “But Jacob said, ‘I will not let you go unless You bless me.’” The great Lutheran musician J.S. Bach composed a beautiful motet using this verse. It is the cry of true faith, much the same as Peter’s words, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” True faith clings to the Lord, no matter the struggle, no matter the “hard sayings” that the Lord speaks. True faith knows that God means to bless us always.
The family of Walt and Vernell Hooge would like to Thank The Congregation for the outpouring of love and support for our family during the death of our parents. The prayers, cards, and your presence at the visitations and funerals were a great reminder of the wonderful extended family God has provided us! We appreciate so much the delicious funeral meals and all the hard work that went into providing them. We are so thankful for all you have done to help us through this difficult time.
Christ wants you to know who He is and what He has done for us. Concordia Publishing House is here to help you with that. We are dedicated to helping Christ’s families read, study, teach, and learn about the miracles that God has shown us. Our newest releases, such as the Portals of Prayer Devotional Bible, Enduring Faith Sunday School Curriculum, The Mighty and The Mysterious, and The Growing in Faith Bible Storybook, in addition to thousands of other resources, allow for families of all ages and stages to share in Christ’s love. CPH is overjoyed to be able to offer these resources for your family to grow with Christ for generations to come. To see all we have to offer, please visit us at cph.org.
Family Promise of Longview, a local ministry to homeless families, has let us know of their current needs: Body Wash (men and women), boxes of Tissues, Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Paper Towels(Sam's work best, but any will do), Pillows (about $5 at Walmart), White1"inch binders, packs of Pencils, packs of Glue Sticks, packs of File Folder Labels, package of plastic Condiment Containers (used to distribute laundry soap; reused). Our Board of Evangelism encourages us to support this ministry, and has placed a basket in our Fellowship Hall for these items.
At the request of some of our families with babies and toddlers, the Elders have decided to try Reserving The Back Pew, On Each Side, For Families With Young Children, so that they will be able to move easily back and forth from their pew to the Bathrooms, and Cry Room, when that is needed. It is hoped that this will encourage these families to worship with us more regularly and consistently.
The 2019 Longview Christmas Parade will be on Thursday evening, Dec. 5. Our Children have really enjoyed riding on our float in recent years. If you are interested in helping prepare and ride on Our Redeemer's float, please contact: Christen Stephens at firstname.lastname@example.org or 903-424-2660.
We have two food donation barrels for Longview Community Ministries in the Fellowship Hall, inside the north and south doors. Please bring your donations of non-perishable food items and place them in the barrel to support the work of this community ministry to feed the hungry. Current needs include especially: ramen noodles, breakfast bars, and fruit cups (single size).
If anyone would like a PDF Electronic Version Of Our Membership List, along with any updates throughout the year, please email Christen Stephens, email@example.com.
